My Instagram followers (@Cashmereandivory) have already seen my selfmade statement necklace of last week. It’s really not that hard to make it yourself. For those who want to try it, here are some tips how I did it.
What you need:
- big necklace chains (I used 2 different structured chains)
- thin chain
- crystal cup chain
- embroidery floss (in my example white)
- lock and closure rings
You can find a good tip for making a necklace (or bracelet whatsoever) here in a previous post of mine.
Now let’s start!
Knot the embroidery floss on the first chain and use it to weave the 2 chains together.
Then use the same colour of floss to adjust the crystal cup chain on top of the 2 previous chains in the same way.
Attach the third chain to the bottom chain like in step 1. You can use another colour. I prefer white because it was my intention to make an all white necklace.
At the lower chain, I attach some pendants with the thin chain. You can choose how tight you want them and how many. I like to let them hang a little bit nonchalant.
To finish, hang a thin chain through the last chain hole and attach the lock and closure rings on it.
I have woven my necklace straight. This gives, while putting it on whereby the chains make a bend, an overlap in the upper chain. Personally, I think this gives an extra element to the chain. But remember, if you do not want this to happen, lay your chains already in half a circle while making it. This will prevent the overlap.
Let me know if you’ve tried it! I’m looking forward to see your creations!
Now I’m going to pack my bags. I’m leaving tomorrow to Knokke for the weekend. (the Belgian coast) Follow me during this trip on instagram (@CashmereandIvory) to be sure not to miss a thing.
Have a nice weekend!
